KET's "Connections" Show Highlights Breastfeeding
KET took up the call for this year’s National Breastfeeding Awareness Month by airing a 28-minute segment on their show "Connections with Renee Shaw" on all things breastfeeding: benefits, barriers, laws, workplace considerations, hospital initiatives, cultural challenges, and more. The panel of breastfeeding gurus included Doraine Bailey, MA, IBCLC of the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (and ILCA’s eGlobe editor), Jan Johnson, RD, IBCLC of the Pike County Health Department, and Cerise Bouchard, President of the Lactation Improvement Network of KY

AAP releases updated breastfeeding policy
The March issue of Pediatrics
contains the long-awaited update of the AAP's policy, "Breastfeeding and the Use of Human Milk." This policy becomes better and stronger with each version. The AAP strongly supports breastmilk, expressed milk, or donor milk as the appropriate food for about the first 6 months. It states that the vital and irreplacable factors in breastmilk and breastfeeding make it an important behavior for normal human growth, not merely a 'lifestyle choice.' They also strongly support full implementation of BFHI and the Joint Commission's Perinatal Core Measure Set.
