Anthem to Cut Pump Reimbursement
IMPORTANT -- ACTION NEEDED!
In December 2017, durable medical equipment providers were notified by Anthem, Inc. of a reduction in reimbursement for E0603 (breastpump coverage), from $169.15 to $95.00. The effective date is April 1, 2018. Kentucky and Indiana are among the states being affected.
This change in payment will mean that mothers will have to pay more up front to get a decent electric pump. Lower income or medicaid-based customers may not be able to afford this, which may impact their ability to express milk while working and decrease their overall time breastfeeding.
Let’s work together to protect the families we work with to get the care and breastfeeding equipment they need!
- Let Anthem, Inc. know that moms and babies matter. Share your voice online and contact https://twitter.com/hashtag/antheminc to stress your concern. Or send a letter to the Chief Medical Officer, Craig Samitt, MD. (Craig.Samitt@anthem.com). KLIC's letter can be viewed here, which includes Mr. Samitt's mailing address and can be used as a template for your own.
- Share this concern with your colleagues, friends, and expecting or breastfeeding families and ask them to also write the company.
- Share this on your social media networks, too!
Happy IBCLC Day March 7, 2018!
There are approximately 160 International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) in KY, and many others in southern Indiana, the Greater Cincinnati area, and other communities bordering Kentucky.
Although most IBCLCs work in hospitals, others work in health departments, physician’s offices, or their own private lactation consulting practice. They provide families with prenatal counseling in OB offices, childbirth education classes, and prenatal breastfeeding classes; immediate help in learning breastfeeding after the birth of the baby; and on-going help and problem-solving as breastfeeding continues and the baby grows.
IBCLC Day is organized by the International Lactation Consultant Association. For more information, visit ILCA's IBCLC Day page at http://www.ilca.org/why-ibclc/ibclc-day. You can download materials to share through social media, join their Facebook Event for March 7, and get further information about how IBCLCs make a difference.
KLIC also recognizes the contributions of other lactation counselors, including Certified Lactation Counselors, Certified Lactation Educators, WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, La Leche League Leaders, and others who support and educate breastfeeding families.
